The lithium ion battery management system (BMS) IC is a fully integrated system solution with a low raw bill of materials (RBOM) cost and small printed circuit board (PCB) footprint, designed for high reliability automotive applications, such as hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), battery electric vehicles (BEVs).
The device can monitor voltages of 3 to 8 cells through dedicated precision 16-bit ADCs and balance the cell voltages with internal or external resistors between mismatched cells. 10-GPIO ports as well as 8-analog auxiliary analog inputs are included for additional cell temperature monitoring and programmable functionality.
The IC monitors and detects several fault conditions such as over-voltage, under-voltage, over-temperature, other faults and can report to the master through two independent communication channels; CAN and daisy chain which are useful to help themselves to meet the functional safety requirements.
